Representatives of local municipalities were engaged in the decision making in an effort to bring forth a brand to promote the region for both business and leisure opportunities. "We were honored to be selected to develop the Greater Hickory Metro brand. The agreement among four counties to share a common brand is a huge step towards our area's economic recovery," said agency principal Woody Stoudemire. The fourteen-year agency worked closely with all parties to develop a brand that would favorably represent the region. The goal of the brand is to solidify the fact that the Greater Hickory Metro is a region defined by four counties: Alexander, Burke, Caldwell and Catawba. These municipalities are represented by the four equal blocks. These blocks also could be construed as buildings which gives the brand a commerce feel. Subliminally, equality and unity are represented by the space between the four blocks forming a "plus" sign. The compass represents accessibility to the mountains, the beach, Virginia, South Carolina and Tennessee. The foothills are soft and rounded representing the gateway to the mountains of the Blue Ridge, adding balance to the structural imagery in the foreground. This alludes to leisure while the sunrise/sunset do the same, also evoking a sense of energy and growth The words Connectivity, Commerce, Creativity and Community
give the brand balance and reinforce the visual metaphors present in
the logo, while representing the business community, ease of accessibility,
the arts & crafts culture and the warmth of the people of our region.
